Day 4: I Am Santa

As with many of the ideas in this mini-course, you can take this one in multiple directions!

Think about the possibilities of positioning your dog as Santa.

From bringing gifts, to eating the cookies and milk left out on the table, to wearing a Christmas hat, this idea can be simple and expected (wearing the hat) to unexpected and charming (eating the cookies)

Just make sure the cookies are appropriate for dogs! Or even better, bake some of your own!

Let's Talk Camera Settings!

What camera settings you use for your Christmas photos will depend on a few factors, mainly: what equipment you’re using, and how much light you have.

If you’re using your phone, I would probably opt for “Portrait mode”, though you may want to change the f/ number so it’s not quuuiiittteee so blurry and fake in the background.

With a camera, my shutter speed is USUALLY no slower than 1/400 second, though I may go down to 1/320 with my 35mm if it’s really dark inside.

My aperture is almost always wide open (the smallest number), so in this case, f/1.4

And my ISO is whatever it needs to be to expose the photo how I want it to be. Does that mean I might end up with a high ISO? Yep! But sometimes a higher ISO is better than a very underexposed photo that needs a lot of editing to lighten it up.

I talk about this a LOT in my upcoming Master Your DSLR course, as well as how the exposure triangle works together. If you’re wanting to get off auto mode and start really taking control of your settings, you’re going to love this course.
