Day 13: Get Outside!

If you’re in a country that’s especially Christmassy (I’m looking at you, Germany), then you should take advantage of the decorations, Christmas tree farms, and other opportunities that are available at this time of year.

Germany is GREAT for Christmas markets! With big trees that can fill your whole background, fairy lights, and general ambiance, we LOVE photographing out in the markets.

As with the “Magical box” photo, balancing your ambient light here is key. Too bright and you won’t be able to see the fairy lights in the background! Too dark, and you won’t be able to see your subjects!

Can you tell I used my fairy-lights in the foreground again here? They’re extra big because these were shot with teh 85mm instead of the 35mm lens!

I recently edited this photo LIVE with a bunch of my Learning Journey students, while wearing a lopsided Santa hat and playing Christmas Carols.

We had some great laughs, explored some new techniques (can you tell this is 2 photos put together plus an overlay??) and everyone learnt something (my main goal as a teacher!).

So if this sounds like your kind of crowd (aka we don’t take ourselves too seriously) but you’d love to level up your editing and photography in general, make sure you check out the Learning Journey
